InstaMay

Here's the mother of all phone dumps.  Twenty photos to be exact.  Get comfortable because it might take a while to see them all.

Since figuring out the Instagram app on my iPhone, I've neglected putting my phone pics on the blog.  If you aren't on Instagram, you should definitely check it out.  You can follow me @redbirdblue.

Also, I haven't posted much because May is a crazy busy month.  It's the end of school and wrapping up the school year takes a lot of energy.  Another big thing going on is preparing for our summer vacation, and I'm getting things ready for Ben's birthday party.  We usually have his party the weekend that we get out of school.  Oh, I almost forgot.  I'm getting things ready for Vacation Bible School at church.  Whew, it makes me tired just thinking about it all!

Here's what we've been up to in May.

Ben turns 3 at the beginning of June and we're getting ready for a Cars party.
Let's celebrate!
Ben's personalized invitation was purchased here.

Since Ben's turning 3 I'd better get on top of the whole potty training situation.  I really stressed out about it with Will, and I regret that.  I've been laid back about it with Ben...maybe a little too relaxed since I've put it off for so long and now he's 3.  I think I'll really make an effort once summer vacation starts.  By the way, on Instagram this was the caption for my photo: "Potty training.  Not for sissies."  Momma is gonna have to get tough.

Hopefully this will be the last box of diapers I ever have to buy.  I feel both happy and sad about this.

Speaking of growing up, Will graduated from his preschool.  Look out kindergarten, here he comes!  He's so ready!

Family photo.  I'm afraid that this will be his high school graduation before I know it.  Seriously where does the time go?  So thankful for this sweet boy!

Celebratory dinner at Chick-fil-A
Will is starting kindergarten and Ben will be in the preschool class next year.

After our family photos at the Arboretum,  we ate some pizza and did a little shopping.

Ben liked the public library in the mall.  Yes, there's a branch of the Dallas Public Library in the Northpark Mall.  Pretty neat!

Lego store + my boys = Happiness

I asked Will what were the names of the Lego figures he created, and he said, "Will's Lego friends."

This weekend we ate at McAlister's Deli.  Oh, how I love their sweet tea!  Since I've been trying to lose weight, I've given up sweet tea.  I cheated this weekend and enjoyed a BIG glass.  Sweet tea is so refreshing in the hot summer.  My veggie sandwich was pretty good, too!

Summer--I'm just now getting over a summer cold!  Ugh!
Curse you summer cold!

Sometimes I get the itch to bake.  I found a Weight Watchers recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies.  They were made with whole wheat flour.  I thought they were tasty considering they were healthy.

I can cook, but I don't always have the desire to.  This is what the boys and I had for supper one night this week.  My friend, Nicolle, assured me on Instagram that they do the same thing for supper sometimes.

Look at these homemade pies!  A teacher we work with is retiring and she treated us to lunch.  She treated us to a bar-b-que lunch and homemade pies for dessert--coconut cream and chocolate cream.
Mama Winnie could make the most delicious pies.  She taught me how and I have her recipes.  I plan to work on them this summer and share the recipes with you.  You can read some of my sentimental thoughts about my grandma here.

May is always the month that we take field trips with our students at school.  Mark and I chaperoned a trip to see the Rough Riders game in Frisco. I LOVE getting to work with my husband.

Teacher appreciation week is in May.  Early one morning I woke up and made chocolate cobbler for Ben & Will's preschool teachers.

Simple teacher appreciation gifts.  I tried to get crafty and used scrapbook paper to fancy-up the plain pots that the petunias came in.

Last photo!
I celebrated my blog anniversary earlier this month.  I've  been blogging 2 years!

Gorgeous Glass

Last weekend we met Lauren for Ben's 3-year photos.  We usually meet up at the Dallas Arboretum for our photo shoots, and, in my opinion, you can't find a better place for outdoor photos in the Dallas area.  The flowers at the Arboretum change seasonally, but it is beautiful year-round.  To add to the beauty, there are currently Chihuly glass sculptures on display all throughout the Arboretum.

(A couple of years ago we saw a Chihuly glass sculpture when we visited Angela and she took us to the Indianapolis Children's Museum.  You can see those photos here.)

After our photo shoot, we had a little time to walk around. We didn't see all of the sculptures, but what we did catch a glimpse of were vibrant and beautiful.  The crowds were unusually big for this time of year and we decided to leave as it got later in the day and more crowded.

Here are a few photos of the gorgeous glass sculptures that I took with my iPhone using the Instagram app.

The boys and I found a place in the shade for a photo.
Can you tell they are tired of having their photo taken?

Lovely flowers

Mark with Will and Ben--three exhausted guys.

Mark is done with having his photo taken.  He was a good sport for two hours, but he'd had enough.  Gotta love him for indulging me and my love of photos!

One more of Ben playing with the sunflowers at one of the artist playhouses.  Ben was disappointed that the petting zoo wasn't there.  Ben and Will really had fun with the animals in March when we visited for Dallas Blooms, petting zoo photos here.
