It's InstaFriday

This week has been a blur.  We had Vacation Bible School at our church.  I help coordinate and organize VBS so it's a big undertaking that involves our entire family.  This year Mark and I also taught the Pre-K and Kindergarten class.  Let me just remind you that I'm NOT an elementary teacher.  Mark and I both teach junior high so it was pretty comical to all of our friends to see us with the little ones.  I'm happy to say that we had a wonderful, fun-filled week of learning about Jesus and amazing stories in the Old Testament.  The theme of VBS was "Believe It or Not...It's in the Bible" sort of like Ripley's Believe It or Not. The stories were all about seeing God's power revealed in unexpected ways.

Today was the last day of VBS and the bible story we studied was about Balaam and the talking donkey (Numbers 22).  What a great story for kiddos to hear.  Since the story of Balaam and the talking donkey was on Friday, one of the other VBS organizers had the terrific idea of having a donkey that does tricks come to the last day of VBS.  The kids loved it!  Her husband's family are ranchers and farmers so they brought up their portable corral and after VBS dismissed we had a show by the donkey, followed by hot dogs for lunch.  It was an excellent way to celebrate the end of an awesome week of VBS.

This was my boys' favorite part of VBS.  They loved the puppet show.
If you thought this is the strangest puppet show you've ever seen; it is.  There were lots of different puppets used, but the puppets at this moment consisted of a Clifford the Big Red Dog puppet, a pink pig and a skeleton.  The skeleton is there because one day the bible story was about Ezekiel and his vision about the dry bones. (Ezekiel 37)

I think Ben took this photo last week.  He's learned how to take photos on my iPhone.  He's only 2 but he knows how.  Don't ask me how he figured it out?  He was supposed to be playing a game while we were shopping at Academy, but instead he took this which was his view of my feet from the shopping cart.

Last Friday we had our first In-N-Out Burger!  I loved it!  The lines have been ridiculously long since In-N-Out opened in Texas about a month ago, but we decided to give it a try.  We went at about 5p.m. on a Friday night.  There wasn't a line when we walked in, but the place was packed.  The only thing we had an issue with was finding a place to sit.   Luckily we found some seats and we were able to eat.  I hope the crowds die down so we can go back soon.

Why not follow up a fast food photo with another?
My boys love McDonald's.  Sometimes I just give in and take them there because they can play and I can eat.  I have to admit that I really like their fries, not as much as In-N-Out but they are good.

To feel less guilty I make the boys eat apple slices with their Happy Meal.

McDonald's knows how to suck kids in--they even play NickJr. while the kids eat.  Hello, Super Size Me!  You've seen the movie, right?  I think that's one reason I have such a guilty conscience when we eat there.

To ease my feelings of guilt we left McDonald's and headed straight over to Whole Foods.  I could spend a very long time in Whole Food roaming the aisles and looking at all of the fresh produce.

This old tractor is in front of Whole Foods.  The boys like to climb and play on it.

Near the tractor, there's an awesome firepit surrounded by these Adirondack chairs.  Since it was 100 degrees the firepit wasn't burning on that evening.  This is Will's face that says "Don't take my picture!"

Ben loves the shopping cart that's a car. Vroom! Vroom!

These carrots look like they were just pulled from the ground.

Peaches are in season now.  So delicious!

  1. Visiting from Life.Rearranged. I have been saying forever that I wished we had a Whole Foods and In-n-Out burgers. We have neither. I would bend my 'no fast food of any kind' rule to try an in-n-out burger!!
